What is the FIFA Coach Mentorship Programme?
Part of FIFA’s commitment to increase the opportunities that exist within football for female coaches, the inaugural FIFA Coach Mentorship Programme will see experienced coaches from the women's game mentor a group of up-and-coming coaches from across the globe. This is in line with FIFA's first-ever global strategy for women's football - launched in 2018.
What will happen on the programme?
After the launch in Zurich (on 29 October 2018), the mentors and mentees will have meetings over Skype and face-to-face (the latter each lasting a maximum of five days). The initial in-person meeting, where feasible, will be hosted by the mentee. The second visit will, where possible, then be hosted by the mentor and any further meetings at a location agreed upon by both the mentor and mentee.
What is the purpose of the programme?
The new project is designed to support female coaches by enabling them to acquire new knowledge, skills and experience that they can harness in their careers.
How long is it running for?
After its inauguration in October 2018, this iteration of the programme will run through until November 2019.
Who is involved in the Programme?
A total of 17 mentors - a list that includes coaches who have lifted the FIFA Women's World Cup™ and been named The Best FIFA Women's Coach - will guide 21 mentees throughout the programme. The mentor/mentee pairings are listed below, and full details of each mentor and mentee's current roles can be found here.
